Valerian increases the heart muscle tone, improves coronary circulation (in the heart vessels), normalizes the heart rate, inhibits mental overexcitation and has an anticonvulsant effect. It strengthens the secretion of the digestive tract glands, relieves spasm in the biliary tract and intestines, a feeling of the abdominal fullness, nausea, stomach pain, heartburn.

It’s used as a sedative and antispasmodic agent in the convulsions, palpitations, cardiac angina, thyrotoxicosis, dysmenorrhea. You can rub it into the painful area for treatment of headaches, radiculitis, lymphadenitis, mastopathy, conjunctivitis, otitis media, it’s used for soothing baths.
